Knoxville Catholic High School is excited to welcome Haden Roberts as the new head coach of the Lady Irish softball program. Bringing more than 13 years of coaching experience, Roberts steps into the role ready to build upon the momentum and success of a historic season for Knoxville Catholic softball.
A New Era for Lady Irish Softball
Roberts joins the Lady Irish after serving the past two seasons as an assistant coach with Knoxville Catholic, where he helped guide the program to a milestone achievement in 2026 — the team’s first appearance in the TSSAA State Softball Tournament since 1984.
Knoxville Catholic Athletics Director Jason Surlas shared his excitement about Roberts taking over the program.
“We are extremely pleased to name Haden Roberts as the next head softball coach at Knoxville Catholic High School,” said Surlas. “Haden is an outstanding coach with extensive experience in the sport of softball and a man of tremendous character who embodies the values of our school. I am confident he will build upon the momentum and success of our softball program from last season.”
A Coach Who Knows the Game
Roberts’ passion for softball has shaped his career both on and off the field. Before joining Knoxville Catholic, he served as a head coach at Karns High School and Concord Christian School, while also gaining experience as an assistant coach at Knoxville Central High School and Karns High School.
His coaching background also includes a decade with the Knoxville Lady Eagles travel softball program, a faith-based organization focused on developing athletes, building character, and helping players reach their next level.
Throughout his coaching career, Roberts has emphasized not only skill development but also leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.
Continuing a Historic Momentum
The Lady Irish enter this new chapter following a memorable 2026 postseason run. After battling through a challenging regular season, Knoxville Catholic fought its way into the state tournament and returned to the biggest stage in Tennessee high school softball for the first time in more than four decades.
The Lady Irish competed against GPS and Baylor during the TSSAA State Tournament, marking a significant moment for the program and the Knoxville Catholic community.
Roberts looks forward to continuing that growth.
“We have a special group of student-athletes who believe in what this program can become,” said Roberts. “I’m excited to work alongside our players, families, and the entire Knoxville Catholic community as we continue to grow Lady Irish softball.”

As head coach, Roberts will lead the Lady Irish into the next chapter of the program with a focus on continued development, competitive excellence, and creating a culture that reflects the mission and values of Knoxville Catholic.
Roberts officially begins his tenure as head softball coach immediately. The entire Knoxville Catholic community looks forward to supporting Coach Roberts and the Lady Irish softball team as they continue to make their mark.
